PetroChem Wire: Recycled HDPE loses pricing ground in 2015

Prices for recycled post-industrial frac-melt HDPE in mixed-color flake form responded to tepid summer demand and prime prices by consolidating lower last week.

Prices ranged from 31 to 36 cents per pound FOB for locations in the Midwest, East Coast and Ontario versus 36 to 38 cents per pound FOB those locations a week earlier.

On the pellet side, HDPE PI FM mixed-color material and black material fell to 41 to 42 cents per pound east of the Rockies from 42 to 47 cents per pound a week earlier. HDPE natural (dairy) scrap bales were done at 37 cents per pound FOB U.S. South, down 1.5 cents per pound from a week earlier.

In the prime HDPE market, blow molding HDPE ended last week at 47 cents per pound railcar FOB Houston, flat from the previous Friday. Offgrade HDPE frac melt suitable for non-pressure pipe was pegged at 48 cents per pound railcar delivered, with dairy and HLMI grades seen 1 to 2 cents per pound lower in some cases.

Offgrade HDPE pail/crate was quoted at 49 to 50 cents per pound.
