ITAD company Sage Sustainable Electronics has partnered with advisory firm Bloom ESG to offer certified carbon credits.
Sage and Bloom are offering the first ISO 14064 certified ITAD impact reporting and independent carbon registry for certified carbon credits, known as insets. The credits can be used toward meeting net-zero goals or be traded on the global carbon market, according to a press release.
Although ITAD companies have been participating in reducing carbon emissions for years, there previously was no mechanism to allow those activities to be converted into a tangible business value, the companies wrote. That’s because there was no standardized method for reporting and carbon accounting.
“Customers have always insisted that we process their surplus tech responsibly and sustainably. Certified credits increase their reward for doing the right thing,” Bob Houghton, CEO of Ohio-based Sage, said in a written statement.
Sebastian Foot, founding partner of London-based Bloom, noted that carbon avoidance must be properly quantified and verified within the enterprise supply chain to produce a certificate of quality and integrity.
“The traceability of avoided emissions down to the individual asset level is only possible because of Sage’s robust chain-of-custody system and our cloud-based, environmental benefits platform,” he said.
Earlier this month, Bloom and e-scrap certification program e-Stewards also announced an environmental benefits calculator to quantify avoided carbon emissions and other benefits of e-scrap recycling and reuse.
