Paladin acquires R&L Recycling, enters European ITAD market

Paladin EnviroTech has acquired Netherlands-based R&L Recycling BV, marking the company’s first acquisition in Europe and establishing a platform for IT asset disposition services, electronics recycling and sustainable materials recovery.

Paladin, which is based in Tampa, Florida, said the deal is a major milestone in its international growth strategy and is driven by rising demand from global hyperscale and original equipment manufacturer customers for compliant, in-region ITAD and recycling services across Europe. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Expanding into Europe has been a strategic priority for Paladin, and R&L Recycling is the ideal partner and platform to lead that expansion,” said Brian Diesselhorst, Paladin EnviroTech CEO, said in a statement. “R&L brings decades of operational expertise, deep knowledge of EU compliance and transboundary regulations and a customer-first mindset that aligns perfectly with our culture. This acquisition establishes a strong, strategically-located European foothold and is the first phase of Paladin’s expansion into Europe.”

R&L Recycling, founded by CEO Raymond van Melis, has operated for more than 25 years and is based in Helmond in the Netherlands. Paladin said the company has built long-standing customer relationships across the broader European recycling markets and is known for disciplined operations and environmental stewardship.

“We pride ourselves on both pushing our industry forward and listening to the needs of our customers and of regulators. This acquisition showcases our proven value as a one-stop shop for ITAD, and expands it to the European market. Bringing R&L into the fold marks a major step in our organization’s short- and long-term strategy, with more growth and investment announcements to come on both sides of the Atlantic,” Bill Vasquez, Chief Operating Officer, Paladin EnviroTech told E-Scrap News.

R&L has 129,000 square feet of operational space and its location in the Netherlands provides what the company described as a strategic gateway for serving customers throughout the European Union as regulatory requirements and sustainability expectations evolve.

R&L Recycling will continue to operate under its existing name, with its current management team remaining in place, Paladin said. The company added that it plans to invest in R&L’s infrastructure, technology and growth initiatives and intends to use the business as a platform for future expansion across Europe.

Paladin also tied the acquisition to its broader strategy on sustainable materials and critical mineral recovery, including its rare-earth magnet recycling initiative, REcapture.

“As we expand into Europe with R&L Recycling, our focus is on supporting customers and economies locally, recovering and processing rare-earth materials within the regions where they are generated, strengthening sustainability outcomes while meeting the growing demands of global OEMs and hyperscale customers,” Diesselhorst said.
