Our top stories from April 2023

Stories covering opinions from regulators and big names in the industry were of interest to our readers in April. | Courtesy of Rumpke Waste & Recycling

Policy proposals, paper mill perspectives and a tech-heavy MRF attracted the most clicks last month.

The list below shows our top stories published in April in terms of unique page views.

1 | Washington Legislature passes recycling bills
Washington state legislators sent a handful of recycling-related bills to the governor’s desk recently, including one that would set up an extended producer responsibility program for batteries.

2 | Nine Dragons takes downtime at two US mills
Citing difficult market conditions, paper product manufacturer ND Paper is temporarily halting or reducing production at some of its U.S. locations that consume recycled feedstock.

3 | Rumpke MRF to employ tech-heavy sorting strategy
A sprawling MRF under construction in Central Ohio will provide Rumpke Waste and Recycling with plenty of room to spread out – spread out recyclables on the belt, that is. That strategy can help automated sorting technologies work more effectively.

4 | WestRock: Recycling is critical to sustainability
WestRock consumes millions of tons of OCC and other recovered fiber each year, so the paper products giant would love to know as much as anybody else what the future has in store for bale pricing.

5 | EPA weighs in on cuts to plastic production, food waste
The U.S. EPA released a plastics pollution plan that supports steps to reduce production of single-use and difficult-to-recycle plastics. Meanwhile, the agency released data showing the county is moving in the wrong direction on food waste.
