ERI expands global footprint into Vietnam

Fresno-based electronics recycler ERI announced today a strategic partnership with Vietnam’s Green Marble Company, a sub-holding of VSD Holdings, to launch “ERI Vietnam,” the company’s second owned-and-branded international operation in under six months, following its entry into Japan earlier this year.

The Vietnam deal

The new venture, co-owned 50/50 by ERI and Green Marble, will combine ERI’s “innovation-driven circular solutions” with Green Marble, VSD Holdings and their partners’ networks across Vietnam and overseas, according to the companies’ joint announcement. ERI Chairman and CEO John Shegerian called it “an honor to partner with this leading Vietnamese sustainable development brand,” describing the goal as building “a radically transparent, end-to-end closed circular loop” that keeps materials out of landfills and feeds them back into Vietnamese manufacturing.

VSD Holdings Founder and CEO Vu Ngoc Tu framed the partnership as central to “building a transparent, technology-driven and internationally compliant recycling ecosystem in Vietnam,” pairing ERI’s global standards and technology with Green Marble’s local infrastructure and market knowledge.

Per the announcement, ERI brings eight US locations and more than 3 billion pounds of e-waste recycled domestically since its founding, along with proprietary chain-of-custody software and AI-driven robotic sorting technology. The company says it has audited ITAD and recycling partners in more than 140 countries, though ERI Vietnam marks its first ERI-owned and ERI-branded facility in the country. Operations are slated to begin later this year.

Part of a broader international push

The Vietnam announcement extends a pattern ERI signaled well in advance. In comments reported earlier last year, Shegerian said the company was “getting more and more business in Asia, Canada, Southeast Asia and the Middle East” and planned to open ERI-owned-and-operated locations in those regions “in the next 12 months,” in partnership with local operators.

That plan began materializing in March 2026, when ERI announced a 50-50 joint venture with Japanese trading giant Itochu Corporation to launch ERI Japan — the company’s first owned operation outside the US. Itochu’s investment came through its subsidiary Belong Inc., whose CEO, Koichiro Nishimura, was named head of ERI Japan. The Japan venture, targeting the greater Tokyo area, was projected to start with roughly 50 employees and scale toward more than 300. Trade press covered the deal as ERI’s breakout moment into direct international operations, following years of working solely through third-party audited partners abroad.

Just days before the Vietnam announcement, on August 5, 2026, ERI issued a release about expanding its global sales team for data-center lifecycle services, in which the company stated: “On the international front, we have already announced our ERI Japan location in Tokyo and will be announcing more international expansions in the coming weeks and months.” The Vietnam partnership appears to be the next step in that pipeline.

Company background

ERI, headquartered in Fresno, California, has positioned itself as the largest fully integrated electronics recycling and ITAD provider in the US, with a network of eight domestic facilities handling data destruction, shredding, remarketing, logistics and regulatory compliance. The company has continued to expand domestically as well, opening a battery recycling plant in Indiana in 2024 and preparing a new ITAD and electronics recycling facility in northwest Georgia. It also recently formed a partnership with Cyclic Materials to jointly pursue recovery of critical and rare earth materials, part of a broader strategy of stacking partnerships onto its core recycling business.

With Vietnam now joining Japan as an ERI-branded international outpost, the company appears to be moving quickly to convert the regional ambitions Shegerian outlined in mid-2025 into operating ventures — with, by ERI’s own recent statements, more announcements likely still to come.
