News from Alliance to End Plastic Waste, CalRecycle and more

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste released its 2024 progress report, providing an overview of its five-year history and announcing a new strategy to create a circular economy for plastics.

CalRecycle is accepting applications for Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grants (RIG5) that range from $500,000 to $10 million per applicant, to help fund mobile unit programs, reverse vending machines and bag drop programs for dealer cooperatives.

Plastics and textile solutions company Carbios and PET manufacturer Indorama Ventures announced a collaboration to use recycled materials in Indorama’s textile filaments used in Michelin tires.

Industrial packaging company Greif announced it will close its steel and polymer drum manufacturing facility in California by September, citing a plan for more focused operations.

Canadian industry group Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) announced investments in sustainable manufacturing projects, including “De-risking Polystyrene Recycling at Scale” involving Montreal-based companies UpSolv, Eco Entreprises Québec and Eco Captation.

The Vinyl Sustainability Council, an industry group for vinyl manufacturing, received the 2025 Power of Associations Silver Award from the American Society for Association Executives for the council’s VIABILITY initiative, which gives grants to projects that will increase the use of recycled PVC.
