Week of Jan. 26

Chittenden Solid Waste District in Vermont is requesting proposals for 10-year operation of its MRF by Feb. 27.

Grocery chain Meijer is testing Tomra‘s new large-capacity bottle return machines at two locations in Michigan, through a grant from the state’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. 

Aluminum recycler Novelis named Emilio Braghi as chief operating officer.

Week of Jan. 19

Georgia-Pacific Recycling president Marc Forman retired this month after 35 years with the company. 

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management awarded $500,000 in Community Recycling Grants to 12 applicants.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is accepting applications for $10 million in composting infrastructure grants through Apr. 15.

The Recycling Council of Alberta named Alyssa Carson as program and partnership manager.

Week of Jan. 12

The Consortium for Waste Circularity and PMMI are collaborating to sponsor University of Florida research to develop a Life Cycle Assessment framework for environmental performance of regenerative robust gasification at landfills and incinerators.

The New Mexico Recycling Coalition published its 2026 strategic plan. 

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has given Circular Action Alliance a deadline of Feb. 9 to submit a revised draft of its EPR plan. 

Unilever and Europe’s Saica Group created a paper grouping band for Axe deodorant two-packs, to replace plastic shrink film.

Week of Jan. 5

Casella Waste Systems announced the completion of its CEO succession plan.

US EPA chief Lee Zeldin published an op-ed in The Hill highlighting the agency’s role in helping to curb food waste.

Routeware announced the appointment of Jeremy Collins as CEO. 

Scrap Management Industries has acquired Allmetal Recycling, a scrap metal recycling company based in Kansas.

Michigan-based Schupan has promoted Nick Kronsbein to the role of president of the company’s beverage container recycling business unit.

Thailand’s Indorama Ventures divested the Czech PET recycling company UCY Polymers.

iSustain has received ISCC Plus certification for its operational systems for sustainability, traceability, and chain-of-custody management within the plastics recycling and materials value chain.

From April 2026, eyewear designer MYKITA will use Eastman’s Tritan Renew 50% recycled resin in all optical demo lenses. 

Michigan State University’s School of Packaging held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly named Plastipak Processing Lab.

The Recycling Partnership is holding the free “PET Packaging: Solving for an Out-of-Sync System” webinar on Feb. 12, as part of its Recycling in America series.

The EU Joint Research Centre proposed harmonized waste sorting labels for its upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Reduction (PPWR) law.

Keurig Canada will pay Canadian $1.85 million (US$1.34 million) to settle a class-action lawsuit regarding recyclability claims about its beverage pods.

Week of Jan. 12

The Plastics Policy Subcommittee of the National Recycling Council has extended the deadline for submitting responses to its plastics survey, until Feb. 1.

Wisconsin-based Plastic Ingenuity has developed a series of free, on-demand courses on topics including sustainable packaging and EPR, for industry stakeholders.

Week of Jan. 5

The European Commission introduced short-term measures to help support plastics recyclers in the region.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation reminded residents of new waste reduction laws taking effect this month, including an expanded ban on EPS foam.

Plastics Europe named Rob Ingram, CEO of Ineos Olefins and Polymers Europe, as president of the industry association.

The Plastics Industry Association and the Society of Plastics Engineers finalized an agreement to become one unified organization.

Assurant appointed Lynn Blake, formerly of State Street Investment Management, to its board of directors. She will serve on the company’s Finance and Risk Committee and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

Canada-based Cyclic Materials closed a US$75 million equity round, scaling up operations across the US and Europe and accelerating Canada-based research and development footprint.

JOCO, a New York City e-mobility platform for last-mile delivery, and Brooklyn’s WALTER (Working And Learning Together Environmental Recycling) launched the city’s first e-mobility waste recycling program.

Redwood Materials announced the final close of a $425m Series E funding round to scale energy storage.

UK-based Ultratest Solutions, a provider of data erasure and drive processing technology, unified its Genesis Erase, Genesis Hybrid and Genesis Restore into a single platform.

Computer Recycling – Maryland launched a dedicated commercial e-waste pickup service for the Washington, DC, area.

The University of Birmingham and HyProMag opened a UK facility for separating and recycling rare earth magnets.

ZooMontana in Billings is partnering with ECO-CELL to become an official drop-off site for electronics recycling.

Week of Jan. 12

The US Department of Energy awarded Texas-based mining company AMERMIN an $11.5 million grant to scale its tungsten carbide recycling process.

Blue Whale Materials was awarded a $55 million grant from the US DOE to expand its lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Oklahoma.

Call2Recycle published the latest draft of its British Columbia battery EPR plan and has begun the stakeholder consultation phase, through Feb. 18.

The Illinois Recycling Foundation,  Illinois EPA and Illinois Electronics Manufacturers Clearinghouse are hosting a free CERA and battery stewardship workshop Jan. 30 in Normal, Illinois, with remote attendance available as well.

Week of Jan. 5

Honda Motor Co.and Princeton NuEnergy signed a memorandum of understanding to advance discussion on collaboration around next-generation lithium-ion battery recycling technologies.

Universal Recycling Technologies launched NEXLOOP, a circular materials platform to help electronics manufacturers adopt recycled materials safely, compliantly and at scale.
