California’s right-to-repair bill is drawing more high-profile backing, with HP becoming the latest OEM to publicly endorse it.
In a post on LinkedIn, Brittany Masalosalo, chief public policy officer at HP, said the company was “proud to support repairability through SB 244.”
“As a recognized leader in circular economy practices that enable repair, we look forward to this becoming law,” she said, adding that “we already make many of our service manuals available on our website for easy repair.”
The California Assembly passed the bill Sept. 12, sending it back to the Senate for a concurrence vote before it goes to the governor’s desk.
Apple also recently came out in support of the bill, which would require manufacturers to make tools and parts available to repair facilities and owners of certain products on fair and reasonable terms.
“It’s the right thing to do for our customers and our planet,” Masalosalo added.
