Indiana awards $308k in waste tire grants

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has awarded more than $308,000 in grants to 23 solid waste management districts and eight additional organizations to support waste tire cleanup projects across the state.

The funding will help local communities collect and recycle improperly stored or illegally dumped tires, which can create fire hazards, attract disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents, and pose other environmental and public health risks. According to IDEM Commissioner Clint Woods, the grants will help local partners remove waste tires and ensure they are recycled responsibly.

CalRecycle holds paint stewardship workshop

CalRecycle will hold an informal public workshop on Aug. 4 to gather feedback on proposed permanent regulations for the state’s PaintCare stewardship program.

The proposed changes would implement recent legislation expanding the program to include aerosol coating products, nonindustrial coatings and related products, while clarifying existing regulatory language. The workshop will be available in person at CalRecycle headquarters in Sacramento, as well as via Zoom and webcast. Written comments will be accepted through Aug. 18. Additional information is available in the public workshop notice.

NERC emerging professionals program:

The National Recycling Coalition is accepting applications for its 2026 Emerging Professionals Program through Aug. 28. The program is designed to connect early career sustainable materials management professionals with experienced industry mentors and peers.

Participants will be recognized at the Rethink Resource Use Conference, Oct. 5-7 in Princeton, New Jersey, where they will receive discounted registration, participate in networking opportunities and one-on-one mentoring sessions, and gain access to industry discussions on trends, challenges and innovation. Participants will also receive a 35% discount on the Foundations of Sustainable Materials and Recycling course.
