News from LyondellBasell, Sigma Plastics and more

Axens, IFPEN and JEPLAN brought a Rewind PET semi-industrial unit in Japan on-line to chemically recycle PET. 

The Beyond the Bag Consortium released its 2023 impact report, finding that it now has 16 retailers engaged, reaching 73,000 stores. 

Beyond Plastics and the International Pollutants Elimination Network released “Chemical Recycling: A Dangerous Deception,” a report detailing the output and pollution of the U.S.’s 11 chemical recycling facilities. The American Chemistry Council pushed back, citing recent research it supported that suggested chemical recycling can reduce emissions.  

The Foodservice Packaging Institute’s Foam Recycling Coalition granted the Ohio Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District $50,000 to help residents recycle foam polystyrene cups, plates, bowls, clamshells, egg cartons, meat trays and block packaging foam.

LyondellBasell acquired 25% of Cyclyx, joining Agilyx and ExxonMobil in ownership of the consortium-style company intended to advance circularity for plastics. 

Swedish Grammy Award winner Michael Saxell paid tribute to Sweden-based Polykemi by rewriting a song for the company’s grand opening of a facility in North Carolina. 

Sigma Plastics acquired Tennessee-based InSource Materials. 

Yamaha Rightwaters and the University of Georgia are sponsoring a Sustainability Certificate Capstone Project focused on enhancing its plastics recycling program.
