Paper or plastic? Nah, paper and plastic. Our readers last month were drawn to stories covering both paper recycling markets and plastic processor plans.

The list below shows our top stories published in November in terms of unique page views.

1 | Virginia recycled pulp plant begins buying bales

A mixed paper and OCC pulping operation is nearing completion on the Eastern Seaboard and plans to start producing unbleached recycled pulp in early January, a company owner said.

2 | Republic extends plastics project to Indianapolis

Republic Services announced that its second plastics processing and production hub, expected to come on-line in late 2024, will be located in Indianapolis.

3 | Report: Paper cup acceptance low despite mill capacity

A report from Closed Loop Partners found that only about 11% of U.S. communities accept paper cups in their recycling operations, despite paper mills’ more widespread acceptance of cups in bales.

4 | Haulers continue to see recycling revenue drops

Recovered fiber prices have steadily increased throughout 2023, but for North America’s top five haulers, the recycling business still isn’t what it used to be.

5 | Fiber and plastic scrap prices rise this month

Fall is bringing a rise in recyclables pricing, with curbside fiber and plastics grades experiencing notable increases in November.
