Best Buy, Dell and Xerox were among the equipment manufacturers honored by the federal government for their electronics sustainability efforts.

The Sustainable Materials Management Electronics Challenge Awards recognize leading OEMs for designing sustainable products and processes, while also diverting electronics from landfills, according to a press release. The gold tier award winners for 2018 were Dell, HP, LG, Samsung Electronics America, Sony, Sprint, Staples, TCL and Xerox. The silver tier award winners were Best Buy and VIZIO.

EPA also gave three awards in product, non-product and cutting-edge award categories.

  • Dell won the product award for its closed-loop gold recycling program.
  • Xerox received a non-product award for its takeback and recycling program in partnership with toner cartridge recycling company Close the Loop.
  • Best Buy received the cutting-edge award for the company’s Teen Tech Centers, where, in partnership with e-scrap processors ERI and Regency Technologies, youths learn about science, technology, engineering and math by working on used electronics.

LG Electronics USA, TCL North America and VIZIO issued press releases highlighting their awards.
