With over two dozen e-scrap laws around the country, it can be hard to keep up with their unique requirements. An industry group now provides a single resource covering all the intricacies.
The Electronics Recycling Coordination Clearinghouse (ERCC) this week launched the e-Cycle Compliance Calendar, a website providing tools to assist in state program compliance.
There are 25 state e-scrap laws in the U.S., and most have important dates throughout the year, for program participation, reporting and other activities. A key feature of the calendar is it sends email alerts about deadlines, changes in laws and other customized data.
The tool also breaks down requirements by type of program participant, explaining what is expected of manufacturers, retailers, collectors and processors.
Jason Linnell, executive director of the National Center for Electronics Recycling (NCER), which manages ERCC, said the calendar is a “much-needed tool” for all players across the e-scrap sector.
“Because no two state electronics recycling laws are identical, stakeholders need a way to break down the various elements to compare them and to keep track of reoccurring sets of deadlines each year,” he said in a press release.
ERCC, which launched in 2010, works on all things related to e-scrap state laws. Primarily, the group offers a single point of reference for information on all state e-scrap laws. It counts governments, private companies, nonprofit groups and others among its membership.
