HDPE post-industrial fractional melt repro and regrind prices increased by 3 to 4 cents per pound last week in eastern U.S. markets, shadowing the price direction of prime HDPE.
Mixed-color pellets were done at 35 to 39 cents per pound delivered (33 to 37 cents per pound FOB) to locations in Florida, the Carolinas and West Virginia. Post-industrial black pellets were discussed at 44 to 50 cents per pound FOB eastern U.S.
In the prime polyethylene market, spot prices moved higher as suppliers tried to implement a 5-cents-per-pound market increase for February. That increase initiative appeared to have solid support. Spot export supply was scarce and little additional supply was expected as February progressed.
The domestic resale market saw generic prime and off-grade prices moving up last week, with some improvement noted in off-grade availability. Generic prime HDPE BM and pail both ended the week 2.5 cents per pound higher at 58.5 cents per pound railcar delivered. Off-grade prices were flat to higher. Off-grade HDPE frac melt suitable for non-pressure pipe was quoted at 54 to 56 cents per pound railcar delivered. Off-grade HDPE dairy was around 55 cents per pound bulk truck delivered, or 53 cents per pound railcar basis.
