Program looks to boost supply of scrap PE film

Trex launched an incentives program for partners that supply the composite lumber manufacturer with scrap polyethylene film.

The company recycles over 450 million pounds of PE film each year at its plants in Virginia and Nevada. Scrap material comes from warehouses and distribution facilities, retails stores and others locations that generate and collect film.

The publicly traded company’s NexTrex retail recycling program announced the new supplier incentive program on March 15. Through the program, suppliers accumulate points they can redeem for Trex products. They earn points based on their years of participation, annual program growth, in-store program promotion, proactive community engagement and more, according to the release. About 32,000 stores nationwide participate in the NexTrex retail recycling program.

“By recognizing and rewarding best practices, the NexTrex Supplier Incentive Program will not only support our dedicated partners’ sustainability goals but will also encourage them to engage their teams and surrounding communities in the program,” Dave Heglas, senior director of supply chain excellence for Trex, stated in the release.

The program comes as Trex completes a $200 million production capacity expansion project. Trex’s former CEO told Plastics Recycling Update the project would allow the company to greatly increase its scrap plastic consumption.
