in Recycling

Resource Recycling readers were drawn last month to a MRF operator’s perspective on current recycling struggles and to a story about a slain recycling leader in Colorado.

The list below shows the five Resource Recycling online articles with the most unique page views during the month of July.

1 | MRF operator details life amid ‘the perfect storm’
A ReCommunity executive recently laid out the specific ways a shifting materials stream, depressed markets and high contamination are affecting the economics of processing.

2 | Memorial fund created for Colorado leader
Cara Russell, the newly appointed head of the Colorado Association for Recycling, was killed in late June at the age of 52. A vigil was held in her memory June 30 and a memorial fund has been created in her name.

3 | Ousted Ann Arbor MRF operator questions motivation of city
The City of Ann Arbor, Mich. recently terminated a processing contract with ReCommunity, alleging safety concerns. But a ReCommunity executive says the municipality was just trying to get out of a deal that was no longer producing financial returns.

4 | Michigan city cancels MRF contract
Ann Arbor, Mich. has ended a MRF operation contract with ReCommunity over alleged safety and fire issues at the city’s recycling facility.

5 | Oregon bottle deposit to grow to 10 cents
Oregon, the first state to launch a beverage container deposit program, will also be the first in the U.S. to increase its deposit amount.
