News from Republic Services, Recycle Utah and more

Conagra Brands and Georgia-Pacific joined the Circular Action Alliance as founding members of the producer responsibility organization.

Greyparrot, AMP, Circulor, Cyclic Materials, Cylib, Greenore, Li Industries, Nth Cycle, SolarCycle and Sortera Alloys were named on the 2025 Global Cleantech 100 list. 

On Jan. 1, the Mattress Recycling Council began operating the industry-led Bye Bye Mattress program, which allows consumers to drop off any mattress or foundation at participating locations listed on the site.

The National Waste & Recycling Association and the Solid Waste Association of North America partnered to encourage municipalities, industry stakeholders and the public to work together to develop recycling solutions for lithium-ion batteries.

The Recycled Materials Association, ReMA, issued a statement supporting Lee Zeldin’s nomination for administrator of the U.S. EPA.

Recycle Utah announced that board member Jim Bedell was the organization’s new general manager after Executive Director Carolyn Wawra stepped down for medical reasons. 

Republic Services showcased an AI-powered garbage truck that can scan for lithium-ion batteries at the Consumer Electronics Show. 

The U.S. EPA imposed a $9.5 million fine on SteriCycle for hazardous waste violations, one of the largest Resource Conservation and Recovery Act fines in history.  

The Washington State Department of Ecology is seeking public comment through Jan. 28 on model ordinances to help communities create successful organics collection programs and divert other materials.
