HDPE, PP bales rise as paper fiber and cans stabilize

The national average price of post-consumer PET beverage bottles and jars dropped an average of a cent this month, now averaging 4.28 cents/lb, compared to 5.38 cents/lb this time last month. Regional contracts are now yielding in the 3-6 cent/lb range. One year ago this grade was trading at an average 16.36 cents/lb.

The national average price of post-consumer natural HDPE from curbside collection programs, moved upward over 14% this month, from 52.13 cents/lb to the current 59.50 cents. The average price was 90.88 cents this time last year.

The national average price of color HDPE is also up marginally this month, from 3.25 cents, to an average 4.72 cents/lb. This compares to 5.81 cents one year ago.

The national average price of post-consumer PP is up again this month, from 6.63 cents to 9.44 cents/lb. By comparison, PP was 13.25 cents one year ago.

The national average price of A-grade film remains steady, at 13.50 cents/lb. This grade traded at 19.06 cents one year ago. B-grade film also remains steady at 5.25 cents/lb. C-grade film is still averaging under 0 cents, at -0.56 cents/lb.

The national average price for sorted, baled aluminum cans (UBCs) remains constant at 78.44 cents/lb. The average was 86.88 cents/lb this time last year.

Sorted, baled steel cans are up this month, from an average $158, to $171/ton. Steel cans averaged $179/ton one year ago.

Sorted residential papers (PS 56) remain constant in the $34/ton range. This compares to $60/ton one year ago. Mixed paper (PS 54) is still trading at an average $20-21/ton. This compares to $42/ton this time last year. Sorted office papers (PS 37) are up marginally, now trading at an average $112/ton. This grade traded at the $127/ton level this time last year.

The national average price for OCC (PS 11) is up an average $5/ton, now trading in the $50-55/ton range. OCC averaged $75-$80/ton one year ago.
